Safe Hands SA - Proudly training electricians, apprentices, and safety observers across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

If your team works on or near live electrical systems, Low Voltage Rescue and CPR training every 12 months is not just good practice, it’s the law. And with recent national training updates, many businesses are asking:

“What’s the difference between the old LVR course and the new one?” “What training does my team actually need?” “What if some staff are qualified and some aren’t?”

Here’s what South Australian businesses need to know, whether you're based in Adelaide, the Hills, or regional SA.

🔌 What Is the New LVR Unit?

The new nationally recognised course is:

UETDRMP007 – Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage (LV) Panel

This replaces the older unit UETDRRF004. While UETDRRF004 is still recognised, UETDRMP007 is the updated version aligned with the current Electrotechnology Training Package. We offer both courses at Safe Hands SA, depending on what your business needs.

✅ Key Outcomes of UETDRMP007

Participants will learn how to:

  • Safely perform a rescue from a live LV panel

  • Use a low voltage rescue kit

  • Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009)

  • Understand electrical safety roles, including the safety observer

  • Apply safe work method statements (SWMS) and WHS responsibilities

  • Record and respond to electrical incident documentation

🚀 Benefits of UETDRMP007 Over the Previous Unit

  • Aligns with the latest national training package updates

  • Includes stronger emphasis on WHS compliance and documentation

  • Focuses more on the role and responsibilities of the safety observer

  • Recognised across a growing number of projects and employers as the preferred version

If you're unsure which unit is right for your team, we’re happy to advise.

👷‍♂️ Who Needs This LVR Course?

According to Safe Work Australia’s Code of Practice: Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace (Section 7.3), any worker performing tasks near live low voltage equipment must be:

  • Competent in rescue and CPR

  • Reassessed every 12 months

  • Supported by a trained safety observer with the right tools and knowledge

This course is essential for electricians, apprentices, technicians, and anyone acting as a safety observer on energised worksites.

🗒️ Prerequisite Requirements

To enrol in UETDRMP007, each participant must hold (or be co-assessed for):

  • HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Plus one of the following:

  • UEECD0007 – Apply WHS regulations, codes & practices in the workplace

  • UETDREL006 – Work safely near live electrical apparatus

  • OR an ESI or Electrotechnology qualification or equivalent

Not sure what qualifies? We’ll help you identify the right pre-requisites and provide options for team members who don’t yet meet them.

Bonus: What to Ask When Booking LVR Training

Here are a few key questions that businesses often forget to ask:

  • Is this the current LVR unit (UETDRMP007)?

  • Can my safety observer be trained at the same time?

  • Will I get training records and same-day certificates?

  • Do I need to sort out CITB paperwork myself?

At Safe Hands SA, the answer is yes to the first three — and no to the paperwork. We sort that out for you.
